Hair care Tips For Winter: All Hair Types!

images

While the season is perfect to get comfortable with a cup of hot cocoa, you can’t ignore the fact that the dry and dreary weather can wreak havoc on your hair if the right precautions aren’t taken. Your hair starts to find it harder to retain moisture, making it brittle and prone to breaking and damage, not to mention the frizz and static that often comes with your winter wardrobe. However, these are all problems that can be avoided with ease as long as you have the right hair care routine for winter.

1. Fight The Flakes

Your scalp is drier and itches more than ever during the winter months because of the lack of moisture in the air. This leads to issues like dandruff and aggravated scalp irritation, which can lead to hair fall. What most people don’t realize is that the dandruff problem can be super manageable with the right care. All you will need is a couple of tablespoons of olive or coconut oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Heat the oil for a couple of seconds until it is warm and then mix it with the lemon juice. Massage the oil into your scalp and leave it in for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it out with shampoo and condition.

2. Control Frizz

One of the most annoying things about winter is all of the static. The hoodies, sweater, scarves, gloves, and beanies all seem to gang up on your hair, making it a static, frizzy mess. To tackle this, use a vented hair brush that has a combination of plastic and boar bristles while combing your hair. Wash your hair only with lukewarm water, not hot water, as the latter will strip away the natural oils that protect and nourish your hair. Apply a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair smooth.

3. Shine And Bounce

The lack of moisture in winter not only dries out your scalp and makes your hair frizzy, but also leaves your hair looking dull and lifeless. Brush or comb out your hair with a wide-toothed wooden comb to remove tangles and apply raw honey to the length of your hair from the roots to the tips. Cover up your hair with a shower cap or towel and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Honey is a humectant that seals in the moisture and helps restore shine and bounce to dull and damaged hair.

4. Olive Oil For Maintaining Hair Health

Warm up two teaspoons of olive oil and massage it slowly on your scalp. This slow massaging helps the oil penetrate deep into the roots. This will help to keep your scalp  and improve blood circulation, ensuring that your follicles get enough nourishment. It will also prevent hair fall. Optionally, you can use a few tablespoons of the oil to coat the entire length of your hair as a deep conditioning treatment.

5. Drying Your Hair: Do It Right

Drying your hair out completely can be a pain, especially if you have long hair. But you should never, I repeat, never put your hair up while it is still damp. Damn hair and scalps attract a lot of problems like dandruff, breakage, and split ends. You must also never rub your hair dry with a towel as the friction will cause damage. The best way to dry your hair would be to gently squeeze the excess moisture out with a towel and then use a blow dryer on the cool setting. If you are using hot air to speed things up, ensure that you are holding the dryer at least 15 centimeters away from your hair.

6. Conditioning: Do It Right

Your hair needs all the moisture it can get during winter, and this makes conditioning a vital part of your hair care routine. Using hair oils and deep conditioning packs at least once a week becomes vital for maintaining the health of your hair. It is important that you end every wash with a conditioner. Shampoo your hair and then rinse it thoroughly. Once all the lather has been rinsed out, start applying the conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair. Concentrate on the ends as they are the oldest and most damaged parts of your hair. Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes and then rinse it out with cool or lukewarm water. It is advised to end a wash with cool water as this will seal in the moisture and leave your hair feeling smooth and looking lustrous.

Hair Care

Beautiful Hair with Little or No Shampoos and Conditioners Japanese women are famous for the beauty of their hair well into old age. and the fact is that shampoos were not even available in Japan until 1930s.

CLEANSING AND CONDITIONING

  • SEAWEED: Cleanse and Condition Hair

Seaweed hair cleanser comes in powder form. It is mixed with water to produce a light gel-like mixture which is used to cleanse hair. It used to cleanse and conditions hair and supplying essential nutrients to hair and scalp, chemical-free.

Seaweed is abundant in calcium, magnesium and iron. It is also a rich source of iodine, the lack of which according to many studies causes the thyroid gland to under-produce thyroxin, resulting in dry hair, thinness, poor hair growth and hair loss.

Reducing use of shampoos or going shampoo-free has many obvious benefits. Shampoo strips hair of sebum, the oily substance we naturally secret to nourish and protect our hair and scalp.

To compensate for the resulting loss, scalp produces too much sebum, leading to the need to wash hair frequently, and necessitating use of conditioners and other aftercare products.

Protecting

  • CAMELLIA OIL: Seal Hair Shaft to Prevent Moisture Loss

The most common use of Camellia oil in Japan is for conditioning hair after bathing, as it works best applied to hair when it is damp.

Camellia oil not only softens hair (because of its very high Oleic fatty acid content) and makes it more manageable, but it also protects hair by forming a barrier against environmental pollutants.

Also, it  seals the hair shaft preventing moisture loss, and can help treat damage from perms and coloring and repair breakage and split ends.

Grooming

Combing your hair properly distributes hair’s natural oils to the rest of your hair. It also keeps hair from tangling and improves its texture and health.

Proper grooming makes hair more manageable and easier to keep clean and wash.

  • “TSUGE” WOODEN COMBS: Polished, Seamless Teeth Glide Through Hair Without Snagging

Japanese wood combs are handmade and polished tooth by tooth from Tsuge (boxwood,) one of the densest, hardest types of wood.

In contrast to synthetics, wood teeth have microscopic pores which pick up and re-distribute scalp’s natural sebum and any oil you apply in a thin, even layer, promoting natural shine and gloss.

The smooth, seamless teeth do not snag and damage hair. Also, wood does not generate static electricity, resulting in less frizz.

MOST GOOGLED BEAUTY TRENDS OF 2015!!

When it comes to Googling beauty-related questions, most of us probably aren’t thinking about the contribution we may have on big data, trend reports, and the market. But the most googled trends of 2015, compiled in the search engine’s first ever Beauty Trends Report, show that the inquiries you type into your browser have a direct impact on all of those things.

Google released the first fashion trend report  earlier this year and the findings showed that tulle skirts, jogger pants, and midi skirts were among the most searched-for items. This beauty report follows a very similar structure, but the results are not so predictable. While it’s pretty easy to guess which fashion trends are taking off (we’ve seen enough of midi skirts and joggers, that’s for sure), the results from the beauty search are actually very surprising. I can tell you now that “Kylie Jenner’s lips” and “eyebrows on fleek” do not dominate the list, although that’s certainly what I would have guessed.

But enough of the lollygagging — let’s get in to it, shall we?

Here are the top three beauty trends from January to August of 2015, determined by Google’s handy dandy search bar. You know, for whenever you find yourself in a hairy situation (OK, fine, they’re all about hair).

3. GREY & PURPLE HAIR

images (46)images (47)

Clearly Jenner’s fondness for changing her hair color has sparked a movement. Colored hair has been a major trend for both women and men for the better part of this year. “‘Silver’ and ‘grey’ were among the top-trending colors based on search volume for this year’s hairstyle hues, with search interest in silver hair growing over 2X year over year,” according to the report.

Some stand-out celebrities that Google pointed out as being associated with the trend include Rihanna, Jenner, and Nicole Richie. For purple, there was also Richie, Lauren Conrad, and Katy Perry. Based on the findings, purple hair has had a steady rise to popularity, while silver/grey hair may soon be decline in popularity.

If you’re thinking about dying your hair any of these colors, this may be the perfect moment to take the plunge!

2. BRAIDS

images (48) images (50)

Braids have always been a popular beauty trend, but in 2015 they were the most-searched women’s hair style. The two key styles involved were the box braids (think Beyonce and Keri Hilson) and goddess braids, better known as halo braids (seen on Ciara and Rasheeda), which were number one and number two most-searched, respectively.

People were searching terms revolving around how to style these looks, such as “goddess braids in a bun” or “short bob box braids.” Both of hairstyles were most popular in the South, with the biggest volume of searchers coming from Georgia, Mississippi, and the Carolinas.

While the style is certainly a classic, braids seem to be making a comeback. Thankfully, there are plenty of gorgeous and inventive braid tutorials on YouTube. Excuse me while I braid my hair into oblivion.

1.MEN’S HAIR

images (51) mens-haircuts-for-thin-hair-3fulmvu

Drum roll please! The most-searched beauty term for 2015 is… men’s hair. Yes, you read that correctly. There has been more interest in men’s hair than in women’s hair on Google this year, and it’s not just by a slight percentage — it’s by six percent. Six whole percentage points!

So, which styles were people searching? The man bun was the most searched for beauty trend in the nation over the last year, largely accounted by for the weekly #manbunmonday hashtag and the internet’s obsession with them. Both Jared Leto and Harry Styles were associated with the man bun craze, and most searches were related to “how to’s.”

The second most searched for men’s hairstyle was the comb-over. Curiously enough, this style was most popular on the West Coast, particularly in California (maybe it’s a surfer thing?). Associated with celebs like Justin Timberlake, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo, this look is definitely a more steady search as opposed to the man bun, which has peaked majorly over the past few months, but makes more sense since it’s less trendy.

And that, my friends, rounds out the most popular beauty trends of the year so far. Could you have guessed these hairy results? I certainly didn’t!

LITERATURE: PROMOTING SELF-LOVE & EMPOWERING LITTLE GIRLS!

While there are children seemingly born with supreme self-esteem and who carry that confidence with them into adulthood, they are few and far between. Most of us will find ourselves with a child who struggles with issues like shyness, fitting in, standing their ground or speaking their mind.

Sometimes, reading the words of someone who is not Mom or Dad helps cement a lesson or a concept in a child’s mind far more than you. Building a strong foundation of self-esteem and confidence means equipping your child with lifelong social, practical, physical and emotional skills.

These books are for all little girls especially those that think their skin isn’t the “right” tone and that her hair isn’t “nice” enough.

The books we read as children can have a huge impact on the weird humans we eventually become. Our beliefs, aspirations, and morals can all be attributed to the colorful pages we excitedly soaked in during our youth. So, whether you’re buying a book for a friend’s child, your own child, or for yourself (because why not? We would), make it a piece of literature that sustains and empowers children. Because, well, those little messages go a long way. Helping children become aware of their dreams and teaching them how to reach for goals is a critical skill parents and teachers need to encourage. Our hopes and dreams shape our lives, the choices we make, and the success we achieve. Everyone has different dreams – and a different definition of success. But everyone needs a dream. Dreams and goals give life purpose, direction, and meaning. They help young people build toward the future, and offer a sense of control and hope.

What To Know About The Vixen Sew-In Braid Pattern

0e6421a071d945597fa93d57d5721c5f

Usually with weaves, you are often limited to certain ways you can wear it. But this bad boy not only let’s you put your hair up in a ponytail, but you can also part it down the middle, part it across, rock French braids, and even a crown braid, all without revealing a single track.

All that seems to be left is choosing extensions that match your own color/texture, and you’re good to go with this protective style right? Wrong.

Yes this is still a weave, but there is a downside to this style that can be a big draw for many:

Not Really A Protective Style. So with a traditional weave, most of, if not all of your natural hair is braided underneath the extensions. This is a great way to let your hair rest, grow, and stay free of damage.

Not so with the vixen sew-in! What creates the versatile middle and side parts is your actual hair. With so much leave-out in the middle and all around the perimiete of your head, your natural crown is way more exposed to the dangers of flat iron heat and constant styling.

Traction Tension. Many wearers of the vixen sew-in report that the broad pattern is installed rather tightly. This is essential in order to style the hair in different updos.

Vixens beware! We all know that tight braids, coupled with the weight of extension tracks can lead to traction alopecia.

Uneven Hair Health. Think about it. You’ve got some of your hair tucked away in braids, but then there’s still a whole lot left out too. So while some of your hair is getting a break, the rest is working over time to blend with your extensions and keep up with the daily styling.

That being said, the vixen sew-in technique still looks great, but like all good things, enjoy it in moderation
